Ø     Update status of Firehouse construction.

Update given on the fire station.  Committee is going to put together a timeline and plan on what they want to accomplish.

Ø     Crosswalk/safety issues Rt. 31 Middle School area.

Discussed the crosswalk and safety issues along Rt. 31 by the Middle School.  The new Asst. City Engineer, Brian Palmer, updated the committee on a Resolution passed in 1998 requiring landowners in that area to install a sidewalk.  He also advised there is an opportunity with “Safe Routes to School” to possibly fund the installation of the remaining sidewalks.  Administration will continue to pursue and keep Committee advised.

Ø     Excessive speed, safety concerns Mill Valley Subdivision

Asst. Police Chief Nicol reported information that the Stealth Stat, a tracking device that can be set up inconspicuously to capture traffic counts, speed of traffic, maximums, minimums, averages, percentiles etc. to determine if City has a speeding problem.  Mr. Reams suggested looking at this as more of a community approach rather than just limit it to Mill Valley area.  Data suggests that the speeding problems are more perception than reality.  The average speeds tend to be not that far off the posted limits.  Committee asked Asst. Police Chief Nicol and Administration to continue to pursue gathering data with the Stealth Stat, targeting enforcement and taking efforts to reduce speed by those means without any recommendations for speed bumps or other issues that had been suggested.

Meeting adjourned at 6:58 p.m.
