SHADE TREE COMMISSION

MINUTES OF MEETING OF FEBRUARY 16, 2005

MEMBERS PRESENT:  David Burke (until 7:25 p.m.), Barry Adler, Chad Morse, and Kevin Behrens.   Dennis DeWeese was excused.  Barb Bushong and John Hoffman were absent.

 

OTHERS PRESENT:  Blade Hauth (Honda Lock) and Secretary Barb McCoy.

 

Barry Adler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

 

The minutes from the meeting of January 19, 2005 were approved with the following change:

 

Page Two:  Mr. Adler stated it would be nice to have islands have with shrubs even though not required by ordinance.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

·        Landscape Plan – HL-A Company, Inc. – 591 Allenby Drive (new location)

 

The landscape checklist was reviewed with the following noted:

 

·        Seven street trees are required – only 5 shown.  Need to add 2 more red maples on the north end of Allenby Drive

·        #12 under Landscape Notes – change Indiana to Ohio

 

Mr. Burke made a motion to approve the landscape plan with the above changes to be made.  Seconded by Mr. Behrens.  Voice vote was unanimous.  Street tree plan for HL-A Company, Inc., to be revised and resubmitted to Shade Tree Commission for final approval.

 

·        Street Tree Plan -         The Legends Subdivision

 

The following street trees were recommended:

 

Burkdale Drive – White Oak tree

St. Andrews Drive – Freeman Maple

 

Mr. Behrens made a motion to approve the street tree plan with the above recommended trees.  Seconded by Mr. Burke. Voice vote was unanimous. 

 

·        Street Tree Plan -         Scott Farms Section 4 Subdivision

 

The following trees were recommended from the Street Tree Plan as submitted:

 

Black Hawk Drive – Cleveland Select Pear

Scott Farms Blvd. – Greenspire Linden

Scott Farms Blvd. north to County Home Road - Celebration Maple

Summer Tree Loop – True Shade Honeylocust

Idlewild Drive – Skyline Honeylocust

Park Meadow Drive – Autumn Flame Maple

Horizon Drive – Shumard Oak

Downey Drive – Autumn Blaze Red Maple

Deer Run Drive – Hardy Rubber Tree

 

It was noted that the selected trees for Scott Farms Blvd. and Black Hawk Drive should match what is currently planted on the existing streets.  Mrs. McCoy to have Joe Tracey from the Street Department review what type of trees are planted.  Also noted was the notation under the Plant List. “The owner/developer reserves the right to substitute any plant material due to availability of similar size, shape and character.”  ALTERNATE TREE FROM THE SAME TREE GROUP FROM THE OFFICIAL CITY OF MARYSVILLE TREE LIST IS PERMITTED ONLY.  Otherwise, varieties are ok as submitted.

 

Mr. Behrens made a motion to approve the street tree plan as submitted providing the trees on Scott Farms Blvd. and Black Hawk Drive match existing trees.   Seconded by Mr. Burke. Voice vote was unanimous. 

 

David Burke left meeting due to other obligations.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

·        Revised Landscape Plan – Home Depot – Coleman’s Crossing Blvd.

 

Revised landscape reviewed with the following noted:

 

·        There are some gaps of the shrubs being used for mounding along Coleman’s Crossing Blvd.  Required to be solid line of shrubs to block parking areas.

·        Need to correct size for shrubs/evergreens on Plant List (i.e., 24” cal. Should be 24” in height)

·        Verify Peking Cotoneaster will grow to 3’ in 2 years.

 

Revisions to be resubmitted to Shade Tree Commission for approval.

 

·        Revised Landscape Plan – G-Zero Properties – S. Main Street/W. 8th Street

 

Changes approved as presented.  Will need to put on next month’s agenda for final approval due to a lack of a quorum at the present time (only 3 members present).

 

MISCELLENEOUS:

 

·        Arbor Day Activities

 

Arbor Day is Friday, April 29th.  Scheduled date for the activities is April 25th   Locations to be determined by City staff.

 

The Tree City USA luncheon to be held in Mount Vernon on April 21st.  Mrs. McCoy to send out e-mails to all Shade Tree Commission members.
