SHADE TREE COMMISSION

MINUTES OF MEETING OF APRIL 21, 2004

MEMBERS PRESENT:  Chad Morse, John Hoffman, Kevin Behrens, David Burke and Dennis DeWeese.  Barb Bushong and Barry Adler were excused.

 

OTHERS PRESENT:  Barb McCoy.

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm. 

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

 

The minutes from the meeting of March 17, 2004, were approved as presented.

 

REPORT OF SECRETARY:  Two agenda items have been received for next month’s meeting.  They are being reviewed by Blake Rafeld.  Hope to have any corrections made before May’s meeting.

 

COMMENTS BY CITIZENS:  None.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

·        Landscaping Plan – West Central Community Based Correctional Facility –  18200 S.R. 4

 

Discussion held concerning the existing trees on the property.  78 trees are required for the property and 137 are provided.  22 new trees proposed, all surrounding the new parking area and not spread out along the new driveway.   The length of the new driveway warrants more trees but due to fact so many existing trees it was agreed the intent of the landscape ordinance was met.

 

The landscape plan for West Central Community Based Correctional Facility was approved as presented.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

·        Revised Landscape Plan  - Honda Dealership at Coleman’s Crossing

 

It was noted that the 45 trees required for the interior have been added.  The street trees along S.R. 33 should be from the Group C Medium upright columnar tree selection (river birch, Norway maple, red maples).  The type of tree they select will be used for all projects along S.R. 33 for consistency.

 

The landscape plan for the Honda dealership was approved as revised with the condition they use  one variety of Group C Medium right columnar trees for the street trees.

 

·        Arbor Day Activities 2004

 

Arbor Day activities to be held Monday, April 26, 2004, with rain date of Tuesday, April 27, 2004.   Sean Sech from the Union County Health Department will coordinate and schedule with schools.

 

The time schedule is as follows:

 

Ø     9:00 a.m. – Mill Valley Park

Ø     9:30 a.m. – top of Schwartzkopf Park along Maple Street (newspaper to take pictures)

Ø     10:00 a.m. – Eljers Park
