The City of Marysville
intends to apply to the Ohio Department of Development’s Office of Housing and
Community Partnerships for funding under the Ohio Small Cities Community
Housing Improvement Program (CHIP), a federally-funded program administered by
the State of Ohio. Marysville is eligible for $500,000 of FY 2007
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME and Ohio Housing Trust Fund
funding, provided the city meets applicable program requirements. On January 25, 2007, Marysville conducted its
first public hearing to inform citizens about the CHIP program, how it may be
used, what activities are eligible, and other important program
requirements.
Based on citizen input, local
officials’ assessment and the Housing Advisory Committee recommendations of
Marysville’s needs, Marysville is proposing to undertake the following CHIP
activities for FY 2007.
- Private Owner
Rehabilitation-6 units up to $35,000 each for a total $212,000
- Home Repair-19 units
at $5,000 each for a total of $125,000
- Down Payment
Assistance with Rehabilitation (DPA)-3 units up to $32,000 each for a
total of $103,000. Additional
mortgage funds up to a total of $300,000 will be leveraged.
- Homeownership
Education for DPA 3 households.
- Each total cost
includes soft costs (implementation and delivery costs).
Each assistance program has income requirements. To be eligible, family must own their own
home or be a first-time homebuyer. These
programs are designed to meet National Objective #1: to primarily benefit low-
and moderate-income persons.
A second
public hearing will be held on March 8, 2007 at 125 E. Sixth Street in Marysville, Ohio
to give citizens adequate opportunity to review and comment on the city’s
proposed CHIP application, including the proposed activities summarized above,
before the city submits its application to the Ohio Department of Development
on April 5, 2007. Citizens are
encouraged to attend this meeting to express their views and comments on the
city’s proposed CHIP application. The
