Why do we need a reservoir?
To provide an adequate raw water supply for the City as we
continue to grow and develop.
-
Why is the reservoir
located on Raymond Road? In the mid 1990's a study was
done to determine the need for a reservoir and potential sites.
The property on Raymond Road was purchased in 1999.
-
Will the reservoir be
available for recreation? Current plans do not provide for
any recreational use including no fishing permitted. Homeland
security issues prefer that such facilities not be open to the
public.
-
Why is the dam located
where shown? The location is in the deepest cut of Mill
Creek and was carefully chosen to minimize flooding to surrounding
and upstream land.
-
Will the dam cause more
flooding? A collapsible dam was chosen to ensure that the
stream will continue to function as it does now. There will be
no change in the hydraulics of Mill Creek.
-
Why is the pump station on
the Mill Valley side of the creek? For several reasons.
The raw water lines to and from the reservoir will be on the east
side of the creek. The pump station needs to be near the raw
water lines and access for maintenance is easier in this location.
-
Will all the trees be cut
down? Every effort is being made to minimize the cutting
of trees. Screening of facilities from residential areas is a
goal of the project. The pump station is designed to be
aesthetically complimentary to its residential setting and will be
built using a split-face masonry exterior and a gabled roof.
-
How tall is the pump
station building? About two stories with the top of the
roof being about 7 feet below the rooftops on Creekview Drive in
front of it.
-
Will we lose the walking
path through Mill Valley? No. During construction,
the current pavement of the path near the pump station location will
be removed and foot traffic rerouted. That section of the path
will then be rebuilt around the pump station. The path from
the pump station area north to the parking lot at the end of Mill
Wood Boulevard will be relocated and moved further from the top of
the creek bank.
-
Will Mill Valley Park be
closed during construction? The playground will remain
open. Some of the sports fields will be closed during
construction.
-
How long will the water
line construction last? The completion date for the water
line work is fall of 2008. However, the contractor would like
to do most of the work while the ground is frozen. We are
hopeful that some park facilities will be available for use by
summer.
-
When will the work be done?
The reservoir construction will not be complete until the end of
2008. Construction of the dam and pump station will be
completed by early 2009. The construction period for the raw
water lines will be much shorter and they should be done by early
summer.
