Refuse Collection

Effective January 1, 2009, the City will enact a flat rate, unlimited collection program for refuse, recycling, and bulk item collection and disposal.  NOTE:  New rates will be reflected on the February 2009 utility bill.

Please have all trash and recycling to the curb by 6am on your trash day.

Type

Cost

All Residents

$21 per month

Seniors (65 years and over) $15 per month (must apply for discounted rate)*
Toter Rental $3 per month (in addition to monthly charge)

* Seniors (65 years and over) wanting the discounted rate will be responsible for making application on a form available from the utility office (Plum St. side of City Hall) at (937) 642-6861 or by clicking HERE.  Proof of age and residency at the property for which the discount is being applied will be required.  NOTE:  The senior citizen applying for the discounted rate must be the named account holder on the utility account/bill provided by the City of Marysville Utility Department.

Proof of age may include birth certificate or driver's license.  Other government issued documents clearly demonstrating the applicant's date of birth may be accepted at the sole discretion of the City of Marysville.

Proof of residency.  The City reserves the right to inspect property tax, income tax, utility billing, residential leases, or other records as required to determine the property for which the application is submitted is the applicant's primary residence and the applicant will be receiving the direct benefit of the discount in trash collection pricing.

Other items may be requested as necessary to confirm that the seniors receiving the discounted rate are the persons who directly benefit from this rate reduction.

Multi-Family Residences  For multi-family residences receiving City services where the utility service is master metered (2-3 unit apartments and/or mobile home communities), in order for tenants to qualify for the senior discount the following steps apply:

  • The owner must provide a semi-annual tenant listing (January 1 and July 1 of each year) clearly identifying the tenants residing in each unit.  Failure to provide the required semi-annual tenant listing will disqualify all tenants at that location from receiving the senior rate discount.

  • The tenant named on the residency listing must submit the senior discount application form.

The Director of Finance (or designee) will review and approve or deny each application submitted for the reduced pricing.  If an application is determined to be denied, the decision rendered may be appealed to the Director of Administration.

Sanitation Services

Yard Waste Collection
  • The City will no longer accept dirt or sod; please call Cherokee Landfill for disposal (800) 686-1732.

  • Residents are required to separate yard waste from other refuse, garbage and recyclable materials

  • Yard waste must be in single biodegradable paper bags with no bags inside.  Plastic bags cannot be used.  Weight limit of 50 lbs. per bag.  Containers as well as garbage cans with yard waste are no longer accepted.

  • Yard waste materials include grass clippings, weeds, leaves, straw, corn stalks, plants, mulch, hedge trimmings, vines and roots.  NO SOD, DIRT, ROCKS, or CONCRETE.

  • Please do not put dog, cat or any other animal waste with yard waste; it can go in the regular trash.

  • Please have all yard waste and brush out by 6am, curbside, on your regular trash day.  Do no set yard waste in alleys.

The City of Marysville encourages residents not to bag grass clippings.  Through a regular yard care routine, grass clippings can be left on the lawn, allowing them to work their way back into the soil.

Brush Collection
  • Brush will not be collected from October 1 through December 31, so that we can provide leaf collection services.

  • Brush also must be curbside by 6am on your regular trash day.  Do not set brush in alleys.

  • Brush must be free of nails, rocks, garbage, vines, and wire.  Mixed bags will not be picked up by either trash or yard waste crews.

  • Brush includes tree, shrub clippings and vines.  DO NOT MIX VINES WITH ANY OTHER CLIPPINGS.

  • Trees and bushes with roots cannot go through the chipper.  Roots must be cut off and will be picked up by other crews.

  • No railroad ties, landscaping timbers, lumber, boards, or other debris.

  • Railroad ties and treated landscape timbers can no longer be picked up by the regular trash trucks nor by City crews.  Please call Cherokee Landfill at (800) 686-1732 for information about landscaping timber disposal.

  • The longer the trimmings are, the easier it is for the City crews to remove them, therefore there is no maximum length.  However, trimmings should be at least 4' in length.  Smaller than this should be bundled.  The maximum diameter is 8".  If small brush is bundled, use string or tape, NO WIRE.

  • The amount of trimmings picked up will be limited to one truck load per day per resident billing address.  Trimmings done by contractors will not be picked up.

  • Live Christmas trees are collected on your regular trash day when placed at the curb by 6am.  All decorations and bulbs must be removed before the tree is placed at the curb.  Trees should not be wrapped or placed in bags.

Leaf Collection

This service allows residents to rake or blow their leaves to the edge of the roadway/curb.

  • Leaf vacuums will operate from the first week of October through December 31 (weather permitting).

  • All leaves must be in paper biodegradable bags from January 1 through September 30.  NOTE:  Leaves must be bagged in mobile home parks year round.  There is a central location for drop off of leaves and yard waste.  Check with the manager of your mobile home park for details.  Leaf vacuums DO NOT run routes in any of the mobile home parks.  Weight limit of 50 lbs. maximum.

  • Rake leaves to the edge of the roadway/curb by Monday morning at 6am to ensure pickup each week.

  • Do not place leaves in the roadway or pile them around parked cars, fire hydrants, or catch basins.  The leaf vacuum is not able to maneuver around parked cars.

  • Keep children away from leaf piles that are ready for collection.

  • Leaf piles mixed with grass trimmings, stones, branches, etc. will not be collected.

After this service has ended for the year, place leaves in paper biodegradable bags for collection as a part of the yard waste collection program.
