Water

About the Division

The mission of the Division of Water is to provide its customers with reliable drinking water that meets or exceeds Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) standards. We strive to provide the best customer service, manage our infrastructure to meet present and future needs, and make every attempt to minimize economic impact to our water customers

The Division of Water is divided in to two groups; Distribution and Treatment.

Distribution

The primary areas of responsibility for distribution include the maintenance and replacement of the following infrastructure:
  • Fire Hydrants
  • Valves
  • Water Mains
  • Other infrastructure including our reservoir and pump station
This infrastructure is made up of 120 miles of water lines ranging in sizes from ¾” up to 36” in diameter. This department replaces outdated water lines through out the city while maintaining existing facilities.

Treatment

The primary areas of responsibility for treatment include:
  • Compliance with all applicable Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules and regulations
  • Maintenance and operation of the Water Treatment Plant
The Water Treatment Plant treats an average flow of approximately 2.2 million gallons per day (mgd). The city water treatment process consists of lime and soda ash softening followed by conventional filtration. Our source water (to be treated) is originated from both city-owned wells and the city reservoir.

The city is currently in the “Engineering Design” stage of a new water-treatment facility that will be located on Raymond Road. At this time, the exact treatment type is still being explored.
